Feliciano Montoya – KF Percussion Director
Feliciano Montoya is entering his third year as the Percussion Director at Klein Forest High School. His passion for music ignited at the age of 10 when he began playing the guitar. His musical journey truly took off at Waltrip High School, where he played guitar in the jazz band and started exploring percussion.
Feliciano attended Blinn College in Brenham, where he studied under Dr. Sarah Burke and Todd Quinlan, earning an associate’s degree in music. While he focused on percussion, he continued to play guitar in the jazz band and bass in the combo. Due to rising interest, Feliciano was selected to direct a second jazz combo at Blinn. During this time, he also began performing in a jazz combo around Houston and working with percussion students during marching season.
After graduating from Blinn, Feliciano began teaching private lessons and served as the Percussion Instructor at Waltrip High School. He later worked at St. Jerome Catholic School for five years, teaching steel drum band during the day and offering private lessons after school.
At Klein Forest, Feliciano teaches not only percussion but also guitar, bass, and jazz improvisation to students interested in playing in the jazz band. He has also taken courses in audio production and live sound at HCC, and he helps students from various Klein Forest fine arts programs learn to run live sound.
Currently, Feliciano is enrolled in classes at UHD, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. His dedication to music education and his multifaceted expertise continue to inspire and enrich the students at Klein Forest High School and cluster intermediate schools.
