Wunderlich Intermediate School (WIS), located in northwest Houston, Texas, is home to over 1,500 vibrant students. The Wunderlich Band, directed by the dynamic team of Johnathan Alvarez, Carlos Arguello, and Zoe De Los Santos, is a cornerstone of the school’s culture. After middle school, our talented musicians continue their journey at Klein Forest High School.
At WIS, about 25% of our diverse student body participates in the band program, making music an integral part of their daily lives. Students embark on their musical adventure in 6th grade with our beginner band classes, where they receive specialized instruction tailored to their instrument. By 7th and 8th grades, students progress into ability-based performing bands, honing their skills and experiencing the thrill of performance.
The Wunderlich Symphonic and Concert Bands are proud to showcase their talents at multiple community events throughout the year. Their dedication and hard work consistently earn them superior ratings at UIL Concert and Sightreading competitions and various state festivals.
Our acclaimed Wunderlich Jazz Band, a first-division, nationally recognized ensemble, offers students additional opportunities to shine. With exciting performances and a reputation for excellence, being a part of the Wunderlich Band means more than just playing music – it means becoming part of a passionate, supportive, and award-winning community.
